I have always been interested in railways from an early age and started in earnest about 1948 whilst living in Dundee I used to see a garter blue streamlined locomotive at the engine shed whilst travelling to school by tram. Investigations revealed the loco was waiting for an afternoon fish train to Edinburgh/London and this started me off as a serious spotter which has continued to this day. During my National service days in the RAF I managed to purchase a Zeiss 120 format camera and from then railway photography came to the fore with ultimately doing my own processing. Our first house in 1960 was near the Taybridge and this accounts for a fair number of shots in its immediate vicinity.
Employment for the next forty years after 1952 was in the insurance industry which allowed some travelling and scope for more photography with camera being updated as time passed and a change to 35 mm format but now digital equipment is the order of the day. A move to Perth in 1973 allowed a change in locations but alas steam had vanished and a young family curtailed operations somewhat although by that stage the diesel era present.. Now I simply take transport photographs and am not a number taker.
