Richard H N Hardy

See the collection

Mr Richard H N Hardy was a premium apprentice at Doncaster on the LNER. Most of his railway photographs include men with whom he worked which enabled him to write a comprehensive caption for each negative. The majority of the first 308 negatives were taken with a Brownie 620 box camera during the War when photographing railways was forbidden and therefore are especially interesting.

Richard had a remarkable railway career during which he learned much about the fellowship of men and the joys and frustrations working with real and practical railwaymen.

In order to share his experiences with you all, Richard has donated this fascinating record of the social history of railways to The Transport Treasury.
