Edward Norman Kneale was born in Birkenhead in 1931. He went to sea circa 1948, and was invalided out in 1951-1952. He convalesced at Alford in Surrey which provided farm training for ex merchant seamen and he had a scholarship from there to Shropshire Farm Institute.
He worked in Surrey as an assistant farm manager and came to North Wales when his parents retired. He then worked at Ferodo (in Caernarfon, Gwynedd) and was a member of the Beaumaris Camera Club.
