J C Flemons was a member of the Railway Photographic Society and photographed with the well known photographers such as E D Bruton, C R L Coles, W Earley, A M D Pender et al. In common with Roy E Vincent and H C Casserley, J C Flemons favoured a Leica camera using 35mm film.
Although frowned on by many of the ‘greats’, the Leica with its world-class optics and lightning-fast shutter speeds produced photographs as good, if not better, than some of the large and medium format cameras. Previously to owning a Leica, J C Flemons used a glass-plate camera but the whereabouts of the resultant negatives are unknown to us.
We are grateful to J C Flemons’ daughter Ann Williams for choosing to dispose of the collection to The Transport Treasury.
